My definition of values
A value is a belief, a mission, or a philosophy that is meaningful. Whether we are consciously aware of them or not, every individual has a core set of personal values. Values can range from the commonplace, such as the belief in hard work and punctuality, to the more psychological, such as self-relianceconcern for others, and harmony of purpose.

Generally speaking, a value can be defined as a belief soon desirable end-state that transcends specific situations and guides selection of behaviour. General and different from attitudes in that they do not apply specific situations only. A person's set of values plays a very important role in his or hers consumption activities, since many products and services are purchased because of (it is believed) they will help us to attain a value-related goal. For example two people can believe in the same behaviours e.g. vegetarianism but their underlying belief systems may be quite different.
Book consumer behaviour, Michael Solomon Third edition.

The following list of values will help you develop a clearer sense of what's most important to you in life, as explained in the article Living Your Values. Simply print out this page, mark the values which most resonate with you, and then sort your list in order of priority. As you scan the values list below, you may find that while most values have little or no significance to you (and some may even seem negative to you), there are those values that just jump out and call to you, and you feel, "Yes, this value is part of me." This values list is merely a guide. It is lengthy and contains many synonyms but is certainly not exhaustive, so feel free to add unlisted values to your own list as well.

VALS SURVEY

From this test its says "The primary VALS type represents your dominant approach to life. The secondary classification represents a particular emphasis you give to your dominant approach."

The test told me that I am a experiencer-Experiencers are motivated by self-expression. Young, enthusiastic, and impulsive consumers, Experiencers quickly become enthusiastic about new possibilities but are equally quick to cool. They seek variety and excitement, savoring the new, the offbeat, and the risky. Their energy finds an outlet in exercise, sports, outdoor recreation, and social activities.

Experiencers are avid consumers and spend a comparatively high proportion of their income on fashion, entertainment, and socializing. Their purchases reflect the emphasis that they place on looking good and having "cool" stuff.

The second one I am is an achiever-Motivated by the desire for achievement, Achievers have goal-oriented lifestyles and a deep commitment to career and family. Their social lives reflect this focus and are structured around family, their place of worship, and work. Achievers live conventional lives, are politically conservative, and respect authority and the status quo. They value consensus, predictability, and stability over risk, intimacy, and self-discovery.

With many wants and needs, Achievers are active in the consumer marketplace. Image is important to Achievers; they favor established, prestige products and services that demonstrate success to their peers. Because of their busy lives, they are often interested in a variety of time-saving devices.

Great research - liked the quiz you found - but you need to make this more of a reflection. Take your timeline for example - how have issues like Diana's death, the twin towers and the tsunami affected your outlook on life? or haven't they?
